Donor Spotlight: Betty Wall
As a single mom herself, Betty Wall understands the importance of community support.
“Even if you’re well-resourced, the hard part of being a single mother—beyond fulfilling those basic necessities—is having someone to talk to…someone to listen and bounce ideas off of.” - Betty Wall
That’s one of the reasons she was drawn to Mom2Mom: the peer-to-peer support it offers to single moms in her community.
In addition, she was inspired by Mom2Mom’s grocery support program, which provides monthly grocery gift cards to Mom2Mom participants ranging from $175-275/month.
Indeed, 100% of Mom2Mom participants said that grocery gift cards are “very helpful” in supporting their families. One participant mom specifically emphasized that the gift cards allow her to purchase fresh, nutritious food for her children (as opposed to food banks which often lack choice or fresh produce).
As one of our #GiftofGroceries matching donors, Betty joins a community of supporters who are making a real difference for single moms and children living in poverty in Vancouver. Thanks to their generous gifts, Mom2Mom is that much closer to our goal of $100,000 for the grocery support program. With these funds, we will increase the monthly grocery cards by an additional $25.00/month to offset rising grocery costs.
“Access to nutritious food makes all the difference in the world,” Betty points out—and she’s right!
When children have access to ample nutritious food, they are more likely to have positive health and educational outcomes well into adulthood.
And, thanks to generous matching donors like her, all gifts made before December 15 will be MATCHED up to $40,000.
P.S. Did you know that Betty Wall is an accomplished author? Her new book, All That This House has to Offer, is a collection of stories showcasing the heritage of Russian Mennonite immigrants and the struggles they faced moving to a new land while trying to hold onto their traditions.
