A Safety Net When It’s Needed Most
Raising children is one of the toughest jobs in the world—especially in a city as expensive as Vancouver. For single mothers living in poverty, the challenges can feel insurmountable.
At Mom2Mom, we believe no mother should have to choose between paying rent and feeding her children. That’s why we created the Compassion Fund, a flexible support system that provides single moms with direct financial assistance for urgent and unexpected costs.

The Compassion Fund is more than just financial support—it’s a lifeline. It’s the difference between a child going to school hungry or having a full lunch, or between a mom keeping the heat on during winter or bundling her kids in blankets. Moms can request support directly, or a relationship volunteer can advocate on their behalf. Each request is thoughtfully reviewed to ensure maximum impact.
Alanna’s Story: The Power of Compassion and Community:
For years, Alanna* has worked hard to provide for her family, carefully stretching every dollar to cover the rising cost of groceries and other essentials.
"As a single mom, it’s been really, really hard. The prices are really high. It’s been a struggle for me to stretch my budget," she shares.
Then, an unexpected crisis pushed her finances to the brink. When her child was hospitalized, Alanna had to cover expensive medication costs not covered by the Medical Services Plan, as well as parking fees. With no room in her budget for emergencies, she suddenly found herself unable to afford groceries.
"I reached out to Mom2Mom and asked if I could get any help with additional grocery support. Because I had to use some of my cash for other things, I didn’t have enough money for food. They immediately sent me extra grocery gift cards.”
That moment showed Alanna the true meaning of Mom2Mom’s Compassion Fund.
"It really suits the word ‘compassion’ because the compassion we receive when you give to us is so helpful. It’s more than just [grocery] gift cards—it’s a really, really big deal to me."

Alanna’s experience illustrates how the Compassion Fund does more than provide immediate financial relief—it prevents families from falling deeper into poverty by offering the stability they need to move forward.
"Being a single mom is so hard. That additional financial support eases a BIG burden. It also gives us the motivation to fight harder and be stronger.” - Alanna
