From Surviving to Thriving: How Mom2Mom is Making a Difference for Children Living in Poverty

Meet Amy and Quinton!

Ever since he was a little boy, Amy* knew her son, Quinton*, was destined to be a great athlete. His boundless energy, impressive coordination skills, and passion for sports only grew as he did.

But, as a single mom struggling to make ends meet, enrolling Quinton in an organized sport was financially out of reach.

Although Amy was meticulous at budgeting, she simply couldn't make her dollar stretch far enough to cover the overwhelming costs of rent, groceries, and other unavoidable expenses

As Quinton entered his preteen years, he became withdrawn. He stopped participating in class, and his grades suffered as a result. At home, he avoided his family, preferring to spend his time alone in his bedroom. He also stopped caring for himself, refusing to eat the nutritious meals Aimee painstakingly prepared.

Amy grew seriously concerned for his mental and physical health. It was heartbreaking to watch her son struggle and feel powerless to help him.

That’s when she was connected to Mom2Mom.

Now, Amy has access to monthly grocery support that reduces pressure on her stretched budget. She also receives funding to enroll Quinton in extracurricular sports through our Happy Health Children program

Amy chose to enroll Quinton in a local taekwondo program last fall.

At first, she was concerned that it would be a battle to get him out of the house and excited for his lessons. But, from the moment Quinton stepped into that dojo, his excitement and enthusiasm were palpable

Instantly, something shifted and her bubbly, energetic little boy was back.

Under the guidance of his dedicated coach, Quinton quickly found his footing in taekwondo. He thrived in the structured environment, learning discipline, respect, and perseverance. His coach not only helped him master the physical aspects of the sport but also provided invaluable advice on nutrition.

Inspired by his coach's guidance, Quinton started making healthier food choices, and there was a remarkable improvement in his energy levels and overall well-being–even his teachers noticed a positive change in his attitude!

Watching Quinton excel in taekwondo has been a source of immense pride and joy. He has gained confidence, strength, and a sense of accomplishment. None of this would have been possible without the generous support from Mom2Mom and their donors.
